MILLIE Cust, 9, is dedicated to looking after the environment and has generously donated $250 to Ocean Grove Coastcare.

The Ballarat youngster is very interested in animals and the environment, but also loves playing in the ocean, particularly at Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale.

Millie is particularly concerned about sea animals and how they can get hurt or affected by environmental issues.

To help sea animals, Millie initially set out to raise money for beached whales but then decided to support a local stretch of coast she knows well.

She raised money by asking friends, family and neighbours to sponsor her to ride 20 kilometres on her bike, and by asking for general donations.

In addition to being an active fundraiser, Millie is a tap dancer, finger knitter, netballer, artist and custodian of pet tropical fish and is very proud that her school, Ballarat Grammar, has a strong focus on sustainability and the environment.

Ocean Grove Coastcare greatly thanks Millie for her dedication to looking after the environment and her contribution to Ocean Grove Coastcare to help it fund activities such as beach clean-ups and tree planting days.
