KEY intersections across Ballarat are set for a revamp after the Federal government allocated millions of dollars for works projects from the Black Spot Funding program.

The nearly $5 million of upgrades will include roundabouts installed on Talbot Street South at the intersections of Leith Street and Rubicon Street in Redan, as well as Havelock and Landsborough streets in Ballarat North.

Mair Street at Armstrong Street North and Lydiard Street North are set for dedicated turning lanes and a solid median strip at the cost of some parking. While Learmonth Road and the Ring Road in Wendouree is set for a slip lane and better street lighting.

City of Ballarat mayor Cr Ben Taylor said the funding announcement was a positive in many ways.

“From a City point of view, with job losses and COVID, we really welcome the investment by the Federal government,” he said. “This is the second lot of we have received and we’re looking forward to more in the future, hopefully.

“The projects have been identified though council and Regional Roads Victoria as blackspots because they met the criteria. We put the submission through and it’s great to be successful.”

The Redan and Ballarat North works will be undertaken by the City of Ballarat and RRV will take on the Mair Street and Wendouree projects.
