New bin services less than a week away
THIS coming Monday 3 November will see the introduction of food organics and garden organics (FOGO) and glass recycling kerbside collections across the City of Ballarat.
FOGO bins will be collected fortnightly while glass recycling bins will be collected every four weeks.
There will be no change to general waste and mixed recycling collection.
There will be no change to kerbside bin collection for the Melbourne Cup public holiday on Tuesday 4 November.
“This is a significant change for our community and a positive step towards a cleaner, greener Ballarat,” mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said.
“All your food waste and glass will be recycled into new products, with food waste and garden clippings being transformed into compost for our parks and gardens.”
More than 8300 residents have already downloaded the Ballarat Waste App which includes information about the new recycling services such as collection schedules, which items should be placed into each bin, and notifications about bin collection changes.
Cr Hargreaves said the app is the easiest place for residents to access all the information they need.
“We know this is a big shift for our community, and the Ballarat Waste app is designed to make it simple,” she said.
“Download it now and you will have everything you need right at your fingertips.”
Residents living in complexes with an owners corporation, who may find storage of the four bins challenging, are invited to ask the corporation to contact the City of Ballarat about bin sharing arrangements.
The corporation should contact the City of Ballarat’s environment business support team by emailing [email protected].
A printable version of the waste collection calendar is available on the City of Ballarat website or residents can call 5320 5500 to have one printed and posted.
The Ballarat Waste App can be downloaded from the App Store or on Google Play.
