A NEW public toilet block is planned for Buninyong’s De Soza Park.

Design and site investigation is underway by the City of Ballarat for the Warrenheip Street site, with community feedback being sought to help finalise plans.

New concept images were released in March, and the community can provide feedback on the council’s MySay page.

The council is seeking feedback through its online portal as well as drop-in sessions this month to ensure the proposed designs meet local expectations around accessibility, safety, functionality and that the new facility integrates with De Soza Park.

Plans involve removing the existing toilet block from inside the Queen Victoria Rotunda and constructing the new toilets beside it.

The upgrade will aim to provide safer, more accessible public amenities for residents and visitors.

There are concept design images of the new toilet block being planned for De Soza Park. The new facility would be built next to the park’s rotunda.

Once the toilet block is built, the rotunda will be renovated, with new seating and barbecue equipment installed. A concept design for the rotunda has also been released.

Ben Taylor, the city’s deputy mayor and Buninyong Ward councillor, said the new toilets were identified as a priority both in the Ballarat Public Toilet Strategy and the De Soza Park Masterplan.

“The Buninyong community told us that the toilets in De Soza Park needed improvement, and we have listened,” Cr Taylor said.

“These new facilities will feature improved accessibility, better lighting, child–changing amenities and enhanced cleanliness, delivering a much better experience for everyone.”

An on-site consultation will be held this Saturday 11 April from 8am to 10.30am.

Designs are expected to be finalised by the middle of this year. Construction was set to begin in the 2026/27 financial year, subject to budget allocation.
