STEPHEN Byrne, director at BJT Legal, is a cyclist by nature and by choice.

This is one of the reasons BJT Legal is a major sponsor this year of the mountain bike ride component of the Ballarat Cycle Classic.

“It is wonderful, you ride with people you know, you meet new riders and you can stop for refreshments all in support of a worthy cause,” Mr Byrne said.

The practice has been a proud sponsor of the Ballarat Cycle Classic, the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute’s major annual fund-raising event, since its inception 12 years ago.

Twenty of their staff also get behind the cause, donning their team jerseys to ride on the day.

Riding in the classic is not competitive, it is a fun day for everyone consisting of family rides, mountain bike ride, road ride and the run and walk course around Lake Wendouree.

With four major sponsors – BJT Legal, Eclipse Ford, PETstock and Protect – and support from other Ballarat businesses this allows 100 per cent of registrations to go directly to FECRI’s cancer research program.

It is not all hard work pumping pedals up mountains and along roads, it is also a social event for all the family. There is a carnival atmosphere at the start and finish line on Windmill Drive at Lake Wendouree with live music, kid’s entertainment and activities, food, beer garden and a circus school.
