TONIGHT’S City of Ballarat council meeting is still set to go ahead, however the public and media will not be permitted to attend in person as the municipality seeks to protocols around social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s believed the only people allowed to attend the meeting will be councillors, the CEO and two staff members to take minutes.

The meeting will still be live-streamed.

“We’ve been trying to look at ways of how we can work around this council meeting and whether we can do it in different ways, but we can’t,” said mayor Cr Ben Taylor from his home via video.

“We’re still going to run the meeting but it will be very limited in relation to how many people are in the room.

“There’ll be only be a couple of council officers, the rest will be on Microsoft Teams.

“Councillors will be there but following our distancing in our work environment.”

Public question time will still take place and questions can be emailed to [email protected] before 4pm today.
