EVEN though they might not know it, everyone has a singing voice, and Stella Savy, renowned vocalist and instrumentalist, is working with over 30 members of the Creswick and district community to prove just that.

The aim is to get the group, know as the Creswick Chorus, up to performance level in just five short weeks and ready for the inaugural CresFest on 1 to 3 April.

Savy’s dynamic teaching skills and sense of humour have already enabled the group with a range of singing abilities to learn two new songs, each in a foreign language, at the first rehearsal.

“It’s so beautiful to hear this enthusiastic group of people singing once again in the community.,” Savy said.

“Of course, it would be wonderful if a few more Creswick men stepped forward. We’re a friendly lot and just want to have fun.”

As well as singing a few songs on their own, the Creswick Chorus will be supporting The Sweet Mona’s, Ballarat’s longest running gospel and world music choir, also performing at CresFest.

Convenor of CresFest, Judy Turner, said that it was a wonderful opportunity for people interested in music to come along and learn to sing from a great teacher.

“Our community is really fortunate that Stella Savy is able to share her passion for music, especially funk, reggae, soul and ska,” Turner said.

“What an experience for those who want to broaden their musical knowledge.”
