Dear Editor,

Volunteers are an incredibly important part of Ballarat and I’d like to pay tribute to a group of men and women who are helping to keep our history alive.

Members of the Ballarat Tramway Museum work tirelessly to restore and run trams at Lake Wendouree and recently they achieved a great outcome that will keep trams in Ballarat for many years to come.

With funding from the Andrews Government and the City of Ballarat, the group has just completed its restoration of a severely depleted section of track on Wendouree Parade.

The 300 metres of track was in dreadful condition to the point it was damaging the museum’s fleet of beautiful old trams. Its replacement was essential.

This was a great project which helps preserve our history and adds substantial dollars to our local tourism economy.

The volunteers at the Ballarat Tramway Museum are really passionate about trams and I was pleased to visit them last month to see the work underway.

President Paul Mong and his team put in countless hours to preserve Ballarat’s tramway heritage, and I’d like to encourage local residents to find the time to visit the museum the next time friends or family are visiting our city and take a trip on one of their trams.
