Festival of facial hair is underway, and Ballarat agency is growing all in.

MOVEMBER is upon us and the team from McGrath Ballarat have signed up, with all four fellas growing moustaches for the annual men’s health fundraiser.

The commitment was an especially big step for Director and Principal, Sean Toohey, who dropped his trademark beard for the event at Freight Bar last Friday.

Sean Toohey loses his beard for the first time in three years thanks to the team from Musket & Bayonet.

“I’ve got a friend that runs Re-Write the Man Code, and together with him and a few other friends that organised a big launch last week, we decided to get behind that with a bit of sponsorship as well,” Mr Toohey said.

“We were going to be joining in with Movember anyway, so we thought we’ll jump behind that event too and the other three boys were all in straight away.”

For Mr Toohey, it wasn’t as easy as just shaving off his beared, he was pretty attached to it after three years.

“We thought we’d dangle the carrot and tell people if we can raise $500 by November 1 that I’d take the beard off,” he said. “Of course, we hit the figure. Now we start fresh with a clean face and I’ve got a dirty top lip!”

As for what it’s like to be almost clean shaven for the first time in three years, last weekend’s return to near winter weather didn’t help.

“It was a bit cold on the cheeks,” Mr Toohey said. “It’s funny looking in the mirror and seeing it. I also thought we’d get more of a response out of the kids, but they didn’t give me much on Sunday.”
