The size of Bannockburn for ABS data collection purposes is approximately 82.7 square kilometres stretching from Sutherlands Creek up to Clyde Park Vineyard and down to almost the Hamilton Highway near Murgheboluc.

The population of Bannockburn in 2011 was 3,513 people and by the 2016 Census the population was 5,256 showing a population growth of 49.6% in the area during that time.

Located just 20 km north-west of Geelong on the railway line to Ballarat, the once sleepy hollow of Bannockburn was soon transformed to a thriving dynamic community as young families came to see the benefits of living in a regional town close to Geelong.

Now consisting of a mainly younger demographic after the town doubled in size over a short period of time, which at one stage, saw Bannockburn as Victoria’s fastest growing town.

The Bannockburn Road District was originally created in 1862, the forerunner of Bannockburn Shire formed in 1864.

The opening of the railway line from Geelong to Ballarat in 1862 through Bannockburn ultimately ensured the formation of a district township.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Bannockburn is 0-9 years and shows that households in Bannockburn are primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying $1,800 – $2,399 per month on mortgage repayments and in general, people in Bannockburn work in a trade’s occupation.
