Owner of Fernwood Ballarat, Lee Squire, is preparing to celebrate three decades of improving the life on local women.

FERNWOOD Fitness believes in a balanced lifestyle that includes an abundance of nourishment, exercise, wellness, good friends, and self-love.

Established by Diana Williams in 1989, Fernwood was born from her interest in weight training and the physiological and metabolic impact it can have on the female body.

Lee Squire, owner of Fernwood Ballarat, is one such woman that has gone from strength to strength since joining the national network in 2000 as a group fitness instructor.

“Fernwood Ballarat opened its doors three decades ago in May 1994 and we can’t wait to celebrate our 30th birthday in May this year,” she said.

“Driven by being accessible to any woman, Fernwood aims to empower women to shine in every way.”

2024 will also see Lee celebrating her 21st year as the owner of Fernwood Ballarat it all began by her lifetime love for dance ad movement.

With more than 43 years of extensive fitness industry experience and 18 years in the corporate world purchasing Fernwood Ballart felt like a natural progression to become the new owners of Fernwood Ballarat on the 17 October 2003.

“What a journey it has been since 2003! So many moments and memories!” Lee said.

“It’s true, it takes a village, and I am honoured, thankful and filled with grateful to have the support of my handsome partner in life, husband Brian.

“Together we link arms with Jacqui our club manager and our passionate professional Ballarat team, serving our members and helping our community managing their mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing every day.”

In December 2022 Fernwood Ballarat moved locations to Creswick Road and unveiled a beautiful, brand-new purpose-built health club to support women in achieving their fitness goals offering customised health and fitness routines based on her lifestyle and needs.

Featuring a glamourous sweeping, open staircase, with modern and spacious facilities, the club includes a dedicated 12-bed reformer Pilates studio, offering personal training, and Fernwood’s signature HIIT small group training program FIIT30, Infrared sauna, Hypoxi weight loss studio plus unlimited group fitness and wellness classes including Les Mills, Zumba, boxing, and yoga.

Members can also expect all Fernwood’s usual perks like complimentary hair products, toiletries, perfume, sanitary products, hair dryers and straighteners, free breakfast, coffee and tea, Wi-Fi and more.

“We’re the experts in women’s health and fitness for good reason,” Lee said.

“The demand from the women of Ballarat shows how important it is for women to have a welcoming 24/7 sanctuary where they feel safe, comfortable, and confident to invest in their health and wellbeing.”

The fact that Fernwood is exclusively female creates a wonderful feeling of calm and contentment – no comparisons, no egos – simply every woman working out together, having fun and supporting one another within a strong community where they can feel understood.
