NORTHERN Rivers Community Gallery will host a series of public programs from February to April, offering artist talks and workshops alongside current exhibitions.

The program will run across the gallery and Ignite Studios creative precinct, with a mix of free and ticketed events.

Activities include painting, mixed media and zine making, with sessions led by exhibiting artists and creative practitioners.

Gallery coordinator Imbi Davidson said the program was designed to give audiences direct access to artists and their work.

“NRCG’s upcoming public programs offer meaningful opportunities for audiences to connect directly with the ideas, processes and practices of our exhibiting artists,” Davidson said.

The program will open on February 21 with a free artist talk by visual artist and curator Linsey Gosper at the gallery.

Gosper will discuss her practice, which explores the intersection of art and magic, in conversation with Davidson, alongside her exhibition Temporal Collapse, on display until March 1.

A painting workshop led by exhibiting artist Jacqueline Scotcher will follow on February 28 at Ignite Studios.

The workshop, titled Abstract Rhythms, will guide participants through abstract drawing and acrylic painting techniques and includes a tour of Scotcher’s exhibition Boundary Rider.

In March, Brisbane-based multidisciplinary artist Eliza Adam will present a mixed media workshop exploring mark making, repetition and layering.

The session will coincide with Adam’s exhibition A Light Hold, which is on display at the gallery until March 1.

The program will conclude in April with a zine-making workshop led by Northern Rivers-based academic and artist Darren Bryant.

The one-day workshop will focus on self-publishing techniques, with Bryant’s exhibition The Time Traveller’s Manual running at the gallery from March 5 to April 26.

Most workshops require bookings and fees, while the opening artist talk is free to attend.
