A LOCAL DoorDash worker has raised more than $30,000 through a community GoFundMe campaign, allowing him to buy a new e-bike and camper trailer for his family.
The fundraiser was set up to help Zakia “Zak” Lovell replace his delivery bike after it was damaged on New Year’s Eve, but donations quickly exceeded expectations.
Lovell has since purchased a new e-bike for work and a Jayco camper trailer, replacing the family’s previous trailer, which was prone to leaking during heavy rain.
Zak said he was overwhelmed by the response, which also led to an appearance on the Today show.
“It’s nice to know that the community have got my back,” he said.
“I really didn’t expect it to go this viral.”
Fellow caravan park resident Jade Davies said the new camper would provide greater security for the family.
“They’ll be able to set up their new van, and they won’t have to worry about that roof collapsing anymore and all their stuff getting wet,” Davies said.
The e-bike will allow Lovell to cover longer distances and complete deliveries more efficiently.
Lovell, who is approaching his 19th birthday, said he is now looking toward a future career as a mechanic.
“The fact that he’s received this help is really going to change his life,” Davies said.
