LISMORE Speedway is gearing up for two major nights of racing in the V8 Dirt Modified division when it returns to the track for the first time this season after multiple washouts.

New owners Cindy and Mick Corbett are optimistic about the season kicking off in style with the first round of the Mr Modified series set for Saturday, November 29.

It comes after the first two events, including the annual Lord Mayor’s Cup, were washed out due to persistent rain and storms.

“There isn’t much you can do about it unfortunately, it’s all part of the show,” Mick Corbett said.

“I think one of the previous promoters said they lost nine out of 11 meetings in their first year.

“The community are really looking forward to us getting off the ground, though.

“We have a couple of big shows to look forward to now; the modifieds have a strong following around the region and always attract a quality field.”

There will be 15 race meetings this year, with signature events including the Australian AMCA titles, NSW production sedan championship and the Bruce Maxwell Classic at Easter.

The washed out events will be rescheduled along the way with the promoters focused on attracting the top drivers to the region.

“We really want to focus on the divisions that are popular with the crowd and that the drivers will travel for,” Corbett said.

“A lot of them are based in Queensland and with the cost of living and other pressures might not travel as much as they have in previous years.

“We still get a lot of support from our regular drivers who travel and there are a few locals who we expect to go well this season.”

Drivers who will be at the track over the next month include Lismore V8 dirt modified champion Mark Robinson, David Clarke, Kurt Wilson and Josh Rose.

AMCA nationals, RSA sedans, modlites, SP sedans, junior sedans and legend cars will also feature at the next event.

Gates will open at 2pm with tickets available at lismorespeedway.com.au
