Research shows that spending time outside has significant benefits for children’s learning, emotional resilience and developing skills for a healthy life.

It may be winter but with the right clothes and know-how, YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp will get your kids active and outdoors these holidays.

At YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp, they run School Holiday Day Program “Surf Coast Outdoor Adventure Kids”. Research shows that spending time outside has significant benefits for children’s learning, emotional resilience and developing skills for a healthy life.

Although some parents are nervous about winter weather, getting lost and climbing trees, the benefits to the child are immense.

Their program ensures the kids are challenged in a safe and controlled environment supported by passionate staff.

YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp’s focus is to get kids 6-12 years outdoors having a different adventure each day with a child focused unscheduled timeframe throughout the day.

Their program is based entirely outdoors, each morning they’ll meet at the camp fire and talk about their plans for the day.

What the kids see and what they discover each day will include a mixture of nature play, environmental and adventurous activities run by their trained Camp staff.

Their day with include a selection of cubby building, tree climbing, build your own zip line, nature craft, bush cooking, mountain bike riding, low ropes course, skate boarding, raft building, rock pool ramble, climbing activities, beach play, estuary discovery, kitchen garden, canoeing plus loads more outdoor fun! Any decisions regarding times and duration of activities will be negotiated on the day by the children themselves, this allows for ownership and negotiation skills.

YMCA Anglesea Recreation Camp is also hosting a Family Playgroup Adventure on Monday July 8, this is a great one-off event for the whole family to connect with each other and spend time outdoors.

They provide nature-based craft and fire cooking activity during the session. Their single sessions are a great introduction to their term based Early Years programs.

The YMCA Kids Go Bush Team runs Bush Playgroup on Monday and Tuesday mornings and Bush Kinder for kinder kids aged 3 and up on Friday mornings.

The YMCA Kids Go Bush Team is all about fun but it also promotes developmental skills in young people across ages from their Tots group to Primary school and beyond.

All programs are run by the qualified and passionate staff at YMCA Kids Go Bush, based at Anglesea Recreation Camp, they teach real life skills and focus on creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking. By engaging their young people to connect to the natural world they enable’s resilience, lifelong learning and sense of place.

They know children who play outdoors connect to their environment by experiencing and learning about weather, flora and fauna, weed species and their impact on their environment. This sense of place creates a foundation for a child’s being, a sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of their role in the world and ultimately a lifelong desire to protect it.
