Party in Fyansford like it’s 1939

August 8, 2021 BY

Phil Scott and Catherine Alcorn are the stars of 30 Something, to be performed later this month.

Geelong Arts Centre and Tenacious C are teaming up to give musical theatre fans the chance to party like it’s 1939.

Provenance Wines will host 30 Something later this month.

It’s New Year’s Eve, Bohemia Kings Cross. She’s been wowing Hollywood. He’s been touring Queanbeyan.

But on the last night of the decade, Phil and Catherine reunite to count down to the end of a very dramatic era.

Politics, the Great Depression, booze… and that’s just in the dressing room!

Caught somewhere between Casablanca and The Cotton Club, join award-winning maestro of mischief Phil Scott and powerhouse canary Catherine Alcorn for a thrilling joyride back to their 18-carat lounge act, where the audience will soon see she’s 30-something and he’s… not.

Alcorn is an award winning artist and producer who works extensively in theatre, cabaret and television.

As an artist, she has produced and performed in national and international tours of her own stage shows The Divine Miss Bette, Go Your Own Way: The Story of Christine McVie and Cathartic, and is a regular fixture in festival programs including Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Sydney Festival and as ambassador for Noosa Long Weekend and Ballarat Cabaret Festival.

Scott is an actor, singer, pianist, writer and comedian.

Between 2000 to 2017 he co-wrote, composed and performed as an actor/musician in the award-winning Wharf Revue series of political satirical revues for the Sydney Theatre Company.

He co-wrote and performed in Reviewing the Situation, which was nominated for a Helpmann Award in 2016, and was the composer and co-writer of AWGIE Award-winning musical The Republic of Myopia in 2004.

The dress code for 30 Something is “Puttin’ on the Ritz”. If you’re gonna party like it’s 1939, it’s only fair to dress for the occasion, so blow your wig and top up your giggle juice. The spiffiest doll or fella will be awarded a twin pack of wine for best dressed on the night, donated by Provenance Wines.

30 Something will be performed at Provenance Wines, 100 Lower Paper Mills Road, Fyansford, on August 28. Dinner from 6.30pm, show from 7.45-8.55pm.

Tickets include a two-course dinner and a show, with a complimentary glass of beer, sparkling or wine on arrival.

To book or for more information, head to the Geelong Arts Centre website.

The show is part of Geelong Arts Centre’s 2021 Winter Escape Season, which is sponsored by major artistic partner Deakin University and innovation partner Costa Asset Management.
