Werribee Mansion opens doors for Open House Melbourne

July 24, 2019 BY

Experience exclusive access to Werribee Mansion this Saturday and Sunday as part of Open House Melbourne Weekend.

Guests will enjoy free yet exclusive access to Werribee Mansion during Open House Melbourne Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

The heritage-listed building, which housed the Chirnside family in the late 1800s, is recognised nationwide for its architectural significance.

Paul Roser, manager heritage partnerships at Parks Victoria, said he is thrilled to bring new audiences to Parks Victoria’s historic venues.

“Our staff and volunteers are excited to throw open the doors to the Werribee Park Mansion during Open House Melbourne Weekend and share their historic and architectural knowledge with visitors,” Mr Roser said.

“Parks Victoria is the custodian of more than 3,000 historic places across the state and is responsible for protecting and sustainably managing these on behalf of the community. Our diverse historic sites are significant in telling the stories of Victoria’s history.”

A family-friendly event, Open House Melbourne Weekend offers plenty for kids and parents to add to their to-do list at Werribee Park.

Little ones can play with the toys available in the special children’s room, while families can enjoy vintage games on the Great Lawn.

Among the buzz will be live music performances as well as light food and beverages from the café.

Guided tours of the formal gardens will run at various times throughout the weekend, showcasing the lake, grotto, parterre and many heritagelisted trees. These tours are prebooked due to their limited capacity and require a $5 booking fee to reserve your place.

This year’s Open House Melbourne program features more than 200 commercial and civic buildings, private homes, infrastructure and landscape projects.
