A celebration of local football greats in Barwon Heads

Seventy people crowded into Barwon Heads’ Beach House restaurant on Saturday for the BHFNC’s Captains Club luncheon.

The Barwon Heads Football and Netball Club hosted its second annual Captains Club luncheon on Saturday May 4 before its 20-goal win over Portarlington.

Held at the Beach House restaurant, 70 attendees tuned into a “fireside chat” with local media personality Ian Cover interviewing former VFL field umpire, Glenn James.

Ian’s probing questions ignited an hour of interesting and funny insights into Glenn’s background, umpiring career and behind-thescenes knowledge of past football characters.

Glenn is the only Indigenous field umpire in the league’s history, umpiring 166 games and two grand finals.

Over the course of the luncheon, Ian Cover was congratulated on his role as a founding member of the Coodabeen Champions – an Australian comedy team – who are celebrating their 39th year on ABC radio.
