ATO workshops to kickstart your small business

Mykel Dixon will present a workshop in Torquay on May 7.

ARE you new to the world of business, or are thinking about establishing your own enterprise? Offering a unique opportunity for the region, the Surf Coast Shire have teamed up with staff from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to host a series of workshops in the hope of giving your business a head start.

Each session covers learning about planning for regular financial commitments, tax basics, good record-keeping as well as employer essentials. Designed to help make managing tax and super responsibilities easier, the ATO workshops will demonstrate how business owners can use online tools, services and resources to their advantage.

Small Business Bus
Cost: Free
When: April 9, 10am-4pm
Where: 4 Walker Street, Torquay (car park outside Woolworths)

Offering free 45-minute confidential mentoring provided by a small business specialist, the Small Business Bus provides advice on developing your business idea, formulating a business plan, marketing your business and improving your understanding of cash flow management.

Information about Small Business Victoria’s programs and services will also be available.

Record Keeping (GST registered)
Cost: Free
When: April 11, noon-2pm
Where: Surf Coast Shire offices, Merrijig Drive, Torquay

This two-hour introductory workshop has been designed for small businesses who want to learn how to keep records to claim all entitled deductions or are registered for GST/thinking of registering for GST.

The event will provide hands-on experience in recording money and calculating GST (pen and calculator recommended).

Australia’s breakthrough speaker of 2018, Mykel Dixon, will be hosting a creative masterclass on value, identity and positioning in creating both a personal and professional brand.
