Bellbrae PS Parents and Friends Association welcomes budget allocation

May 29, 2019 BY

THE state budget has set aside $9.1 million towards upgrading the facilities at Bellbrae Primary School, an outcome that has been advocated for by the school’s Parents and Friends Association for “quite some time”.

However, only $910,000 of the $9.1 million will be spent in 2019-20, with the upgrades not expected to be complete until the fourth quarter of 2021-22.

Mitch Barrow, Parents and Friends Association committee member, said the group was pleased the state Labor government was able to deliver much-needed funding for the school.

“It’s been a lot of hard work from a lot of different people in the community to get this result,” Mr Barrow said.

“We’re looking forward to working more down the track to be able to finish and give our kids what they deserve and what they’re entitled to in contemporary learning.”

However, Mr Barrow said he was disappointed that only $910,000 worth of the funding would be delivered in the 2019-20 budget, a delay that would have an impact on the planning of the redevelopment.

“We’re not looking for anything extra for our school, we need what our kids are entitled to and what kids in the area have already received,” Mr Barrow said.

“We don’t want to delay things any longer as we currently have less than ideal learning facilities.”
