Borough confirms new CEO appointment
The Borough of Queenscliffe has appointed a new chief executive, following the early termination of former CEO Martin Gill’s contract late last year.
Jane Grover, who served as chief executive of the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust between 2014 and 2022, will step into the role on 16 March.
Queenscliffe mayor, Donnie Grigau, said she was selected from more than 100 applicants and the council is confident she is well-suited to lead the organisation.
“Jane is a highly experienced and values-driven executive who understands the particular challenges faced by small coastal councils,” he said.
“Her background in leading complex organisations, managing ageing assets, balancing community expectations and maintaining long-term financial sustainability aligns strongly with the needs of the Borough of Queenscliffe.”
Grover has also held senior executive roles in organisations such as the Box Hill Institute, and Cr Grigau said she will bring a strong focus on community consultation, governance and service delivery to the new role.
Her appointment follows the departure of former chief executive Martin Gill in November last year, after the council “agreed terms for the early finalisation” of his contract.
Seasoned local government executive, Michael Tudball, was installed as interim CEO while the council undertook its recruitment process.
Cr Grigau said the council unanimously endorsed Grover’s appointment.
“Council was on appointing a CEO with proven leadership and project management capability, sound judgement and the ability to work constructively with councillors, staff and the community,” he said.
“Jane demonstrated a clear understanding of Queenscliffe’s unique character and a strong commitment to listening, stewardship, transparency and disciplined decision-making.”
Grover said she was committed to working closely with the community.
“I am committed to working alongside council and our community to strengthen services and deliver on our strategic goals, to ensure Queenscliff remains a vibrant place to live, work and visit,” she said.
“I am looking forward to working collaboratively with councillors and the organisation to enhance governance, deliver sustainable services and positive outcomes that respect the community’s values and the Borough’s distinctive coastal character.”
