THE Borough of Queenscliffe has moved to stabilise its leadership, appointing an interim chief executive while the search for a permanent replacement gets underway.

The council appointed seasoned local government executive, Michael Tudball, to the role on Monday during a special council meeting that was closed to the public.

His three-month appointment will begin on December 1.

The decision follows the council’s vote last week to bring forward the end of current CEO Martin Gill’s contract by about 12 months.

Gill will end his six-year tenure with the borough on November 28. The council has not explained why his contract will end sooner than expected.

Borough mayor Di Rule welcomed Tudball’s appointment.

“We are confident that Michael is exceptionally qualified for this role,” she said.

“With a strong professional reputation and proven expertise, he possesses the experience and commitment required to guide the borough effectively through this transitional period.”

Tudball brings more than 20 years’ experience across state and local government to the role, including interim CEO stints at the Moira, Golden Plains, Corangamite and Darebin city councils.

He is currently serving as acting CEO of LGPro Victoria, a members’ association for local government professionals.

Recruitment agency McArthur has been engaged by the borough to lead the hunt for a permanent chief for the borough.

“We are assured by McArthur that this is a coveted role and will attract many highly skilled suitable candidates,” Cr Rule said of the recruitment process last week.

“I am excited by the opportunity to bring fresh energy and ideas to the management and culture of our council.”
