THE Mount Moriac Hotel rolled out bales of hay and set up camp for the 10th annual Speed Shear competition on Saturday.

Registered shearers jumped on the stage at 7pm, with a flock of people turning out to watch on as they shed through layers of wool.

Jack Fagan took out the top spot in the Opens test, scoring a speedy time of 22.4 seconds. In second place was Adam Braush with a time of 22.8 seconds, while third went to Tiare Tipu (23.2 seconds).

Kevin Kinita was crowned the Seniors champion, shearing his way to victory in 31.5 seconds. Runner-up went to Trae Crowe (32.2 seconds) and third to Jarryd Lubcke (34.9 seconds).

The event raised money for a young family who are going through a cancer battle. Organisers took to Facebook to pay thanks to those who attended as well as the event’s sponsors.

“Another fantastic turnout for the speed shear this year. A massive thank you to our amazing sponsors, volunteers, supporters and competitors. This night wouldn’t be possible without each and every one of you.”
