New curriculum brings farming into the classroom

A new curriculum resource designed to teach students about regenerative farming, food production and sustainability has been launched by Farm My School.

The new program, Growing Our Future, provides curriculum-aligned lesson plans and classroom resources for students aged eight to 13, encouraging hands-on learning through the study of food systems, biodiversity and regenerative agriculture.

Farm My School, which transformed a disused sports field at Bellarine Secondary College into a working regenerative farm and outdoor learning space, developed the resources to help schools incorporate those lessons into the classroom.

Farm My School chief executive and co-founder James McLennan said the program had been created by educators to help teachers deliver engaging, practical learning experiences.

“Students connect with food and how it is grown,” McLennan said.

“These resources encourage discovery, critical thinking, curiosity, patience, teamwork, independence and more.

“From investigating soil health and biodiversity to exploring food production, systems thinking and sustainable futures, Growing Our Future invites students to engage deeply with the world around them through meaningful, real-world experiences.”

The resources are designed to be flexible so teachers can adapt them to suit their students, local environment and curriculum requirements.

Farm My School said the launch supports its broader goal of improving food literacy and helping young people develop the knowledge and skills needed to support healthier communities and more resilient food systems.

The Growing Our Future resources are available free to educators through the Farm My School website.
