Community unites for World Autism Day

April 11, 2019 BY

Many families took to the café to show their support for World Autism Day last week.

A GEELONG café which has been thoughtfully designed for people on the autism spectrum hosted a morning tea to raise awareness for World Autism Day on Tuesday April 2.

Tucked away on Little Ryrie Street, The Treehouse café donates 50 cents from each drink sale to The Treehouse Geelong, a support group for families living with autism.

Access Your Supports director Ralph Menchise said World Autism Day puts a spotlight on the hurdles that people with autism – and those indirectly affected by the condition – face in their day-to-day routine. He also said community awareness for the disability has seen the area gain more understanding.

Special guest Chloe Hayden, popularly known by her alias Princess Aspien, shared her experiences with Asperger’s syndrome at the event.
