Corporate leaders to race for Lifeline support

BUSINESS leaders from Geelong, the Surf Coast, and the Bellarine will take their marks at the Geelong Racing Club on May 17 for the 135 Corporate Dash.

This unique event challenges participants to sprint, jog, or swagger down the 135-meter home straight, all in aid of Lifeline Geelong.

Head of corporate and community partnerships Michael Parker said Lifeline centres rely on donations and fundraising to keep services running.

“A Lifeline crisis supporter takes on average 220 calls per year and each call from a help seeker lasts approximately 19.5 minutes.”

The 135 Corporate Dash, named to symbolise the estimated 135 people affected by each suicide, aims to raise awareness and funds for Lifeline Geelong.

To enter the race, each business leader must raise a minimum of $1,500 through the event’s fundraising platform at 135-corporate-dash.raiselysite.com

The winner will not only earn the title of the fastest corporate leader but also considerable bragging rights.

Lifeline receives over 20,500 calls annually from the Geelong region, which is about 56 calls a day.

Participants and supporters are encouraged to get creative with their racing attire to spur on extra donations, adding a layer of fun to the event.

“Every donation made to 135 Corporate Dash will stay here in the Geelong community and support our local centre helping Lifeline answer every call,” Mr Parker said.

The 135 Corporate Dash not only seeks to raise funds but also to increase awareness about suicide and the importance of accessible crisis support.

Suicide remains a pressing issue in Australia, being the leading cause of death among Australians aged 15 to 44.
