Work begins on Torquay North roundabout

MAJOR construction began on Monday on a new roundabout at the intersection of Surf Coast Highway, Messmate Road and South Beach Road in Torquay North. To allow this work to take place, Messmate Road will be closed at the intersection from today until the project is complete. Drivers who wish to access the Surf Coast Highway via Messmate Road will be redirected onto Coombes Road. Regional Roads Victoria has thanked drivers for their patience during construction. Institute for Frontier Materials researchers, led by Dr Maryam Naebe, worked with Ford Motor Company research scientists to create the special textile, using virgin and waste wool fibres along with nonwoven and fibre powder technology. “With stricter fuel economy and environmental regulations closing in, leading car manufacturers like Ford are moving towards replacing polyester, polyethylene and polystyrene car interiors with lighter natural fibre options,” Dr Naebe said.
