AFTER a 20-year hiatus, Joey Scouts has restarted at 1st Drysdale Scout Group.

Joey Scouts is the youngest age group in the scouting group, which includes five, six and seven-year-old boys and girls.

Joey Scouts leader Wayne Myers said the kids’ activities were decided by the young people themselves, under the general theme of “Discover Adventure”.

“But the activities still involve a lot of skills, even learning to tie a knot, mostly through games,” Mr Myers said.

“One of their first nights out at the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve was observing nature and learning how to safely light a fire – of course then you just had to toast marshmallows.”

Mr Myers said as the kids settled in more, they would become involved in community service-related activities, just like the older cub scout and scout sections.

“For ANZAC Day they made lanterns to use at their front gate and visited the local cenotaph to look at the names and flowers – this age group is so anxious to learn everything.”
