GEELONG police have apprehended a man linked to several electric bike and scooter thefts in Ocean Grove over recent months.

Victoria Police stated detectives had been investigating the theft of e-bikes and e-scooters from caravan parks and public places in the summer period.

“Investigators had been told e-bikes and e-scooters were being stolen from caravan parks and public places in the Ocean Grove area throughout January and February.

“Following an extensive investigation, detectives arrested a 26-year-old man of no fixed place of abode and a 26-year-old Clifton Springs woman.”

The man was subsequently charged with 10 counts of theft among other related offences and was remanded to appear before the Geelong Magistrates’ Court.

The woman has been released pending further enquiries, as the investigation into the thefts continues.

Victoria Police is urging the public to come forward with any relevant information by contacting Crime Stoppers.

Victoria Police tips to keep e-bikes and scooters safe:

Use D-Locks – Police recommend using D-Locks to secure bikes. These locks are made from hardened steel and need heavy-duty tools to be broken. They often come with a braided booster cable for securing both wheels.

Parkiteer Bike Cages -For those using public transport, Parkiteer Bike Cages offer a secure place to store bikes. They’re available at over 100 Victorian Railway Stations.

Reporting theft – If your bike is stolen, report it via the Police Assistance Line or Online Reporting. Having details like the bike’s make, model, colour, and serial number ready will help.
