Project recipients celebrate funding wins

LIGHTING, outdoor gym equipment, a board walk and walking track make up four important projects on the Bellarine, which have secured funding through Pick My Project.

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced last week that the projects would receive almost $700,000 worth of funding through the state government initiative that gave locals the power to choose the projects their community needed.

The four projects on the Bellarine to receive funding are:
• Bellarine’s Nature Therapy – All Abilities Access Track in Ocean Grove ($144,690)
• Collendina Sports Ground Lighting Project in Ocean Grove ($200,000)
• The Springs Dell Boardwalk in Clifton Springs ($200,000)
• Outdoor Gym Equipment Stations in Pt Lonsdale ($127,000).

Ms Neville said Conservation Volunteers of Australia would construct and upgrade an all abilities track which would wind through Ocean Grove Nature Reserve.

“The existing track can be slippery and is narrow in spots so the new track will allow everyone, of all abilities, to enjoy a walk along a beautiful part of the Bellarine,” Ms Neville said.

Ms Neville said the Ocean Grove Collendina Cobras Junior Football Club, working in partnership with the City of Great Geelong, would receive $200,000 to install two additional light towers at the ground.

“The lighting will ensure the club goes from strength to strength, with the real winners being local junior footballers,” she said.

“The Cobras is a great club providing a game of football to 20 junior teams and 200 Auskick participants and so I congratulate them on securing this important funding.”

Members of the Drysdale Clifton Springs Community Association wanted to thank all who voted for the construction of a board walk at the Spring Dells, Clifton Springs.

“There will be a boardwalk that will provide walking access around and preservation of the heritage Springs Site that gave Clifton Springs its name,” the group said.

Rotary Club of Queenscliffe President Karen Pecar said she was thrilled the club’s project had been successful and thanked the community for its support that got the project over the line.

Funding of $127,000 will be provided by Pick My Project and together with contributions from the Borough of Queenscliffe and Queenscliffe Rotary, outdoor gym stations will be installed by the end of June 2019 as a trail in Point Lonsdale and a pod in Queenscliffe.
