Sarah’s art highlights threats to sea creatures

November 8, 2017 BY

BELLARINE Secondary College student Sarah Barrot has won this year’s Head Start Youth Art encouragement award.

Sarah’s work “Sea Dragon (My World is no Longer My Own)” addresses the theme of “Our world/My World” in a sensitive and sophisticated way.

“What was once a pristine garden in which I could grow and breed now contains a myriad of man-made litter, killing me and many other sea creatures,” her art states.

Use of found detritus from the beach is creative and draws your attention to the issue of waste in our oceans, and most importantly our local environment.

Rubbish collected from the beach is incorporated into the Sea Dragon sculpture; one of the most intriguing and beautiful creatures of our coastline.

Sarah is studying VCE Studio Arts and Design at Bellarine Secondary College.
