THE Ocean Grove Senior Citizens Club is now offering low-cost art classes to residents of all artistic backgrounds.

Committee member and participant Lyn Nurnaitis said the club’s new art classes, led by local artist Christopher Scott, cater to artists with any level of experience.

“I really enjoy his class, and the help and guidance that he provides,” she said.

“The lessons provide new visual experiences and focuses my attention away from my daily worries.

“I really enjoy the social aspects, the extra opportunity to create, all while listening to Chris’s great classical background music.”

Mr Scott’s art lessons are held at the Senior Citizens Club from 9.30-11.30am every Wednesday and Friday.

The lessons focus on an array of different techniques and art styles, including art history, perspective, and colour theory.

He also offers beginners acrylics lessons, which involve in-class assignments made up of carefully structured and practical painting projects.

Mr Scott says teaching is fun, non-confrontational, and unparalleled in Geelong.

“People who attend the classes find the time goes far too quickly,” Mr Scott said.

“If you are someone who dreams of becoming an artist but keeps putting it off until you have more time, then this art class could be the kick you need.”

Mr Scott has been teaching drawing and painting for beginners for more than eight years.

He holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts) from Deakin University as well as many Art Diplomas. Mr Scott has also completed an art history study tour in France.

To join the class, artists are encouraged to meet Chris at the Ocean Grove Citizen Club at 101 The Terrace, or phone Ms Nurnaitis at the club on 5255 2996.
