Sisters bake up a storm to help save the rhinos

Mem and Arabella say thanks for the support.

TWO Ocean Grove sisters who want to help save the Javan Rhino from extinction have raised almost $400 from their home baked goodies.

Arabella and sister Mem sold cookies, cupcakes, truffle, lemonade and bookmarks featuring facts about the rhino during their stall on Saturday.

Mum Cara said Arabella came up with idea after learning about the Javan Rhino at school.

“She said she wanted to sell cookies out the front to raise some money to help,” Cara said.

“Her and sister baked all Saturday morning and then sat out the front and sold their goods. “They decided they wanted to do it again this week and baked even more goods.”

Cara said Arabella also made bookmarks with facts about the Javan Rhino so people could learn more, as people in the first week said they hadn’t heard of them before.

“They sold everything and raised a huge $390.75!” she said.

“Such a wonderful community to support her. “They are so excited.”

Cara said all money would be donated to save the Javan Rhino and her class at school were looking into which fund would best contribute to helping the endangered species.
