Tributes flow for Wilson

BLUES icon and Clifton Springs musician Chris Wilson has died following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Wilson, who has played a major part in Australian music for over 40 years, announced his diagnosis with the disease last July and died last Wednesday January 16, aged in his early 60s.

His longstanding career has been warmly remembered in the days following his passing, with many taking to social media to offer their condolences to his wife, Sarah Carroll, and their two children.

“We’re deeply saddened by the news that Chris Wilson has lost his battle with cancer and passed away yesterday,” the Nightjar Festival shared on Thursday January 17.

“Chris was a great supporter of the Nightjar Festival playing for us on numerous occasions and always a crowd favourite. “Our deepest condolences to his family at the time.”

In August 2018, a charity concert was hosted at the Corner Hotel to raise money for “the gentleman of Australian blues” family.

Artists Barb Waters, Barry Palmer, Steve Lucas, Kerri Simpson, Ash Davies, Jerome Smith, Tim Rogers, Matt Dwyer, Shane O’Mara, Dave Hogan, Jo Jo Smith and DJ Max Crawdaddy performed.

Having worked with many Aussie greats including Paul Kelly, Hunters and Collectors, Harem Scarem and Sole Twisters, Wilson is being hailed for his powerhouse voice and lasting influence on the Australian blues and rock scene.
