A trio of projects from the Geelong region have been lauded in this year’s Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards.

More than 730 people attended Sunday’s gala dinner at Crown Palladium, where Nicholson Construction was named Regional Commercial Builder of the Year for the Boronggok Drysdale Library.

An indigenous meeting place inspired the design and construction of the library, which is now a hub for the Drysdale community.

The circular two-storey building features a stunning landscaped rooftop amphitheatre featuring high performance environmental sustainable design and is part of the City of Geelong’s UNESCO design city accreditation program.

Kane Constructions had two wins for its Geelong works – firstly, the Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings in the $15 million to $20 million range for its strking Searoad Ferries terminal in Queenscliff; and Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings in the $20 million to $30 million range for the Gordon Institute of TAFE Culinary School in Geelong.
