1.Troppo

Set in Queensland, this eight-part crime series is based on the hit novel Crimson Lake written by Candice Fox. US Actor Thomas Jane stars and produces the film. He plays a disgraced former police officer Ted Conkaffey who must face his tragic past with Amanda Pharrell, a private investigator with a criminal background. As the duo investigates the disappearance of a Korean tech pioneer, they stumble upon a series of strange fatalities and must fight for survival in the Far North Queensland wilderness.

The series was produced by EQ Media Group and Beyond Entertainment in partnership with Renegade and is directed by Yolande Ramke (The same director of Cargo and The Haunting of Bly Manor).

 

2. The Tourist

In Australia, a man awakens with no memory of his past. As he struggles with amnesia in an unfamiliar country, the intriguing man searches for answers about his identity and history. However, he soon finds himself going down a path in which someone seems to try and prevent him from learning the truth. Jamie Dornan, Danielle Macdonald, and Shalom Brune-Franklin star in this mystery thriller directed by Chris Sweeney.

 

3. Heartbreak High

Heartbreak High began in the 90s as a show about a young teacher who falls in love with one of her 17-year-old students. This new drama is set in Sydney and reimagined for a new generation by Fremantle Media. The plot portrays a classic high school drama. A revelation makes Amerie an instant pariah at Hartley High, provoking an extraordinary rift between her and ride-or-die Harper. Amerie, helped by her new friends, must restore her reputation while navigating heartbreak, love, and sex. 

With eight new episodes to air on Netflix, millennial parents and their Gen Z children will enjoy and relate to Hartley High school’s unique set of students. Created by Hannah Carroll Chapman, the show is a potential hit that might significantly increase Netflix’s subscribers. 

4. After The Verdict 

This drama follows four jury members who just finished a high-profile murder trial. After returning to their everyday lives, they begin to doubt their verdict and decide to investigate the crime themselves. Drew Proffitt and Ellie Beaumont of Subtext Pictures created, wrote, and produced the series, which will debut on 9Network. Tess Haubrich and Michelle Lim Davidson join Magda Szubanski, Lincoln Younes, and Sullivan Stapleton in the outstanding cast of After the Verdict. 

 

5. Barons 

Barons is a fresh take on the classic trope of hippie surfers. In the show, Sean Keenan, Jillian Nguyen, and Ben O’Toole star, which was filmed on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Set in the 70s, a gang of hippie surfers abandons the world in quest of their ideal slice of surfing paradise.

Having no idea that their quest for utopia will lead them to the boardroom, a friendship that seems forever are lost in translation as they learn the hard lesson that the sharks of the corporate world have sharper teeth than those they used to surf with. Swapping surfboards for boardrooms, this friend group will become fierce rivals. Will they ever find paradise again? 

 

 6. The Twelve 

Foxtel’s major original Australian project for 2022 is a 10-part courtroom drama starring Sam Neill with Brooke Satchwell, Kate Mulvany, and Marta Dusseldorp. A lady is accused of murdering a little kid. The jury of 12 ostensibly regular Australians, each having their emotional baggage, must analyse all the complex and fragmented evidence before choosing which side has the best attorney. 

The Twelve is an Australian remake of the award-winning 2019 Belgian series De Twaalf. Created by Warner Bros, the show already has plenty of global distribution agreements.
