CURLEWIS’S Blitz Golf tournament delivered on its promise to excite spectators, with an incredibly close final round deciding the winner.

Winner of last year’s New Zealand Open Zach Murray, along with Max McCardle, Brett Rankin and Ben Eccles were the four finalists, having made their way through the initial group of 40.

A par three hole would decide the sudden-death round.

Murray perfectly executed a 30-foot putt to secure a birdie and the first of three Blitz Golf Pro Am Series titles.

Murray told PGA Australia he was delighted to have pulled off the putt.

“You don’t have that much time to think so I just tried to get it as close as I could. It blocked a little bit, but you drive for show and putt for dough, so that was how it turned out.

“I have been doing some work on my putting and it is nice that it pays off when it counts.”

Murray also donated a quarter of his tournament prize money to the Australian Red Cross Appeal to help their response to the bushfires.

The Blitz Gold Pro Am Series will move to Links Hope Island in Queensland tomorrow (Friday, January 10), before concluding at Glenelg Golf Club in Adelaide on Sunday, January 12.
