The team were over the moon with the win, sporting big grins with their first silverware in hand.

THE Surf Coast Suns Football Netball Club are perching their first premiership cup on the top shelf of their display cabinet, with the club’s U13 Girls Netball team defeating the Torquay Tigers in a nail-biting grand final at Kardinia Park on Friday March 8.

Participating in Geelong Junior Netball’s summer competition, the Surf Coast Suns’ U13 Girls Netball team finished the season on top of the ladder under coaching by Shandelle Dean, walking away with a seven-goal victory against the Torquay Tigers (Suns 15 – Tigers 8).

Surf Coast Suns netball committee member Amber Potter said the win was an exciting step for the club’s growing number of players.

“I joined the committee for netball so that boys and girls could have the opportunity to compete in a fun but laid-back environment,” she said.

“This year we are welcoming the biggest cohort, with eight teams competing in the upcoming season. This win is such a boost for the netball club.”

The club’s Under 11 team also finished on top of the ladder, setting a promising start for the 2019 winter competition.
