GEELONG local and Torquay-based golfer Ben Eccles has ascended into top spot on the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit following his second-place finish today (Sunday, November 19) at the Victorian PGA Championship.

Eccles finished one shot short of David Micheluzzi at Moonah Links in Fingal, Victoria, but moved into top spot on the season ladder.

He shot a four-under 68 to finish 13-under to chase down Day 3 leader Kazuma Kabori, but Micheluzzi regained his footing after an early double bogey to claim his fourth win on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

Eccles’ runner-up performance puts him in pole position on the Order of Merit ahead of the tour’s next stop at the Australian PGA Championship at the Royal Queensland Golf Club from November 23-26.

If Eccles concludes the PGA Tour of Australasia on top of the Order of Merit, he will receive five-year exemptions to the tour’s three largest events: the Australian PGA Championship, Australian Open, and Australian Masters.

He would also earn entry to The Open Championship and put himself in line for opportunities to the DP World Tour and Korn Ferry Tour.
