SUPERBOAT action is locked in to return to Geelong’s Corio Bay, with vessels set to reach speeds of 180kmh.

Round 2 of the 2024 Offshore Superboat Championships will be held in Geelong over March 16 and 17, Australian Offshore Powerboat Club president John Curnow confirmed.

“Geelong for me is probably the best venue on offer throughout our calendar,” Curnow said.

“You get people from all over Geelong making their way down over the two days. There are the pits down at Steampacket Gardens for people to get up close to the vessels. It just doesn’t get better than that.

“Superboats has been going since 1968 and has maintained a strong connection with Geelong since.”

The action will involve racing from several types of boats, including the Supercat Outboard, Manta boats, Supersport 65’s and Supersport 85’s, led by local boy Harry Bakkr.

The Geelong round of the Offshore Superboat Championships will be the second of four rounds throughout the year. Round 2 will take place three weeks after Round 1 in Wyndham Harbour (February 24-25) and before Round 3 (May 11-12) and 4 (July 27-28) in Hervey Bay and Gold Coast in Queensland.

“We aim to keep this event family friendly as it has been to this point. It’s an inviting two days and most importantly it’s free for spectators,” Curnow said.

“There’s plenty of awesome spots to view the action, whether it be on the piers, down at Eastern Beach or on the hills of Eastern Gardens.

“We promise it’s an annual event residents should not miss out on.”
