JAN Juc’s Tim Stevenson mastered the waves of Gunnamatta Beach to win Round 2 of the Victorian Open Series.

Stevenson faced strong competition in the Open Men’s competition, but posted the highest score of the day with a 14.54 to win the final.

While Phillip Island’s Carl Wright’s score of 14.40 meant Stevenson only won by a very fine margin, Stevenson had been the standout performer throughout the round. As well as the final, he registered the highest scores in the opening heats, the quarterfinals and the semi-finals.

He said he was delighted to emerge on top of a strong group of competitors.

“It’s always good to come over to Gunnamatta for the open series and getting the win on the East Coast against ripping talent is something that I’m really chuffed with.

“The waves were quite tricky all day, however with the lower tide and a smaller swell developing during the afternoon there were some quality left handers coming through. Luckily I could jag a few and get the event win.”

Finishing third was fellow Jan Juc surfer Todd Rosewall, with Cahill Bell-Warren from Torquay finishing fourth.

Phillip Island’s Sophie Fletcher won the Female Open. But Jan Juc was once again well-represent with Mia Huppatz finishing second and Angelique Kefalas finishing fourth.

Lucy Naylor from Point Lonsdale took third place.

The Open Series will head to Phillip Island on March 21 for Round 3.
