Portarlington Golf Club – November 2, 2017

December 11, 2017 BY

THE club held its Annual General Meeting last Sunday, with a large attendance to confirm and support the club’s last 12 months. Club treasurer Graeme McGregor gave a very positive report, indicating the club’s ongoing growth and success, with a net profit of a touch over $200,000, up just over $50,000 from the previous year. One of the many pleasing aspects of the report was the exceptional growth of the bistro, supporting the expenditure the club incurred to modernise the kitchen. A landmark motion was passed, merging the historically seperate Mens and Ladies golf committees into one committee, with one Captain, four men and four ladies to make up this group. Our congratulations to club president Marilyn Mooney, who has very capably led the board of directors in her first year in this position.

Tuesday October 24, Men’s Stableford
The bigger fields are returning as the weather improves, and 147 men were on the course to enjoy the superb conditions. Trophy of the Day was picked up by Robert Hamilton with 42 points, also winning D Grade from Ian Pardy with 40. Wayne Pavletich topped the C Graders with 41 by a point from Gordon Atkins, Peter Bauer was the best in B Grade with 42 from Brad Clarke’s 40, and best A Grader was Cliff McCorkell with 40 from Phil Freeman’s 38.

Wednesday October 25, Ladies’ Stableford
Ladies AGM day brought out 47 players, and Geraldine Collison was best for the day with 39 points, just pipping Shirley Bell on a countback for C Grade honours. Pat Peacock got the B Grade voucher with 34 by a point from Chris Cunningham, and Jan Cogger didn’t let her Captain’s duties upset her game by topping A Grade with 38 from Jill Peppard’s 36. Jill also collected a NTP with Jacky Rowe scoring the other, and the ProPins were won by Judith Webber (0-25) and Liz Culph (26-45).

Saturday October 28, Men’s and Ladies’ 4BBB Stableford
A field of 150 men and 26 ladies made up the field for this team’s event, with wily veterans Brendan Rice and Leigh Wilson heading the men’s field with a great score of 49 points, just toppling John Cranson and Tom Scarff off the pedestal by a single point, with Nathan Skewes (from Midlands GC) and Kevin Godfrey a countback behind them in 3rd place. In the ladies’ event, Angela Royal and Olivia Bowman came out on top with 45 points, with both Marg Mascoll and Joyce Livermore, and Marilyn Mooney and Kay Williams only a countback behind the winners.
