Geelong West Giants has parted ways with a senior coach for the second time this season as the club continues to struggle for on-field success.

The club announced on Tuesday night that Geelong Football Netball League (GFNL) senior coach Chris Browne had stepped away from his role, effective immediately.

It comes just months after the club’s Geelong District Football Netball League playing coach Scott Frangos also stepped aside.

The Giants have won just two games across both senior sides this season, with Browne’s team last collecting points in round 5 against North Shore.

Browne signed a three-year contract with the Giants when he took over the senior role from club veteran Greg Mellor in September 2025. He arrived at the club after working as an assistant coach with Leopold.

Browne said the demands of senior coaching had given him a renewed appreciation for the commitment required to build a successful football program.

“Coaching Geelong West has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my football journey,” he said.

“After a great deal of reflection, I’ve decided that it is the right time for me to step away and prioritise my family, while achieving a better balance between football and life.”

The club confirmed Browne’s departure through its social media channels and thanked him for his commitment.

“His leadership has had a significant impact both on and off the field, helping to build a strong culture, develop our playing group and foster an environment centred on respect, accountability and continuous improvement,” it read.

“The Geelong West Giants would like to sincerely thank Chris for his dedication, hard work and the positive contribution he has made to our football program and support his decision to prioritise family at this time.”

The club has begun the process of appointing an interim senior coach to lead the GFNL team for the remainder of the season.
