Torquay Boardriders finest junior members to head north

July 10, 2019 BY

Over the course of the next few weeks, Torquay Boardriders finest junior members will assemble on the Gold Coast for the Occy Grom Comp at Duranbah Beach and at Lennox Head on the NSW North Coast for the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open.

The two events are arguably the most prestigious junior competition in the world where junior surfers from Japan, Hawaii, USA and NZ come to take on Australia’s best to clinch the title in their respective divisions.

With plenty of swell hitting the coasts of Queensland and NSW over the last week, many of our members used the opportunity to practise their craft early before the event started. A hot spot for competitors wanting to practise before the upcoming events over the last week was none other than Snapper Rocks. The Gold Coast break was the epicentre of an amazing swell that saw surfers such as Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson strutting their stuff among a brigade of excited junior surfers.

The Occy Grom Comp at Duranbah Beach will run from the 6th-11th of July 2019. Live scores are available at surfingqueenslandlive.com. The Skullcandy Oz Grom Open at Lennox Head takes place from the July 12-17.

If you’re venturing up to either location make sure you get down and cheer on Torquay Boardriders as well as Victoria’s best surfers against the finest junior surfers from around the world.

The next senior aggregate is on July 27 and is sponsored by local business Quay Osteo.

Torquay Boardriders will be holding their surf trivia night that very evening at Bar 61 in Torquay. The dress code for the evening is “Bogan”.

There will be more information to come very soon.

That’s a wrap.

Stay Cool.
