Torquay two off to Japan

October 25, 2017 BY

TWO of Torquay Boardriders Club’s (TBC) finest, Xavier Huxtable and India Robinson, have made their final preparations for the 2017 ISA World Junior Titles in Japan.

The duo leaves shortly, with the club announcing that they will be donating $500 to each athlete to assist with the costs of travel and competing.

Both club members claimed Australian Junior Titles in 2016, with Huxtable claiming the U/16 Boys and Robinson the U/18 Girls at Phillip Island.

TBC focus heavily on junior development and are the only club in the country to have two current Australian Junior Champions.

Club president and Surfing Victoria high performance coaching director Cahill Bell-Warren is proud of Huxtable and Robinson.

“To my knowledge we are the only club in Australia to financially support their club members who represent their state at the Australian Junior Titles, so it is only natural that we would help them with the high costs of their upcoming World Titles charge.

“It is exciting for the club community to have two of our own representing Australia at a World level, on behalf of the club I’d like to wish them all the best”.

Robinson locked in an incredible Silver Medal finish in the U/16 Girls at the 2016 ISA World Junior Titles in Portugal.

Huxtable is making his ISA World Junior Titles debut and is looking forward to the challenge.

“I’ve really dialled in my boards and small wave approach and am feeling really good. I love my club and really appreciative of their support!” Huxtable said.

The 2017 ISA World Junior Titles will run September 23 to October 1 at Okuragahama Beach on the southern Japanese Island of Kyushu.
