Trains have resumed on the Geelong line after a track fault near Lara halted services this morning.

V/Line has confirmed train services have resumed after more than five hours of disruptions and advised passengers to allow extra travel time as trains return to normal scheduling through Friday afternoon.

“We thank Geelong Line passengers for their patience with coaches replacing trains between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale due to a complex signalling and telecommunications fault,” a V/Line spokesperson said.

The fault caused boom gates along the line to activate earlier today, with police and traffic management dispatched to assist vehicles at level crossings in Lara and Corio.

More than 40 coaches were deployed to assist commuters between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale.

V/Line confirmed the fault is not related to vandalism on the line near Tarneit earlier this week.

Full details on impacted services for the rest of Friday, 3 July can be found on the V/Line website www.vline.com.au.
