The winners of the 2019 Tradies Challenge.

TRADIES headed to Jan Juc to show off their surfing skills in the annual Worksafe Tradies Challenge on Saturday.

Conditions were difficult, but the performances were still strong.

Callan Cross of Cross Tiling wall and floor tilers in Jan Juc was the strongest performer on the day. His final two-wave score of 16.67 helped him take out the Masters (Over 35) title for the second consecutive year.

Cross said it was an event he always looked forward to.

“I really enjoy competing in the Tradies Challenge each year.

“It is much more than just a surf comp, I love meeting other trades people who surf, you can make some great connections across a wide range of the industry.”

Josh Johnson-Baxter of Outdoor Vision Landscaping in Ocean Grove claimed his second Open Tradies Challenge Title.

Johnson-Baxter said it was a fantastic event to be part of.

“There is such a fun vibe around the event and the amount of quality product given away by the event sponsors is pretty wild!”

A 6.77 score on his final wave saw him edge out painter Cody Robinson by .20 points.

Robinson, along with teammate Todd Rosewall, won the pairs event, combining for a score of 25.48.

The Worksafe Tradies Challenge was presented by Fagg’s Mitre 10 & Belmont Timber and supported by Kings Cars, Cancer Council Sunscreen, Coastalwatch Plus, Rocktape, City to Surf Mobile Café and Surfing Victoria.
