Ballet school presents The Wizard of Oz
PREPARATIONS are coming to a close for The Extension Ballet Studio’s production of The Wizard of Oz, which will take place on Sunday 6 October from 2pm at The Capital in View Street.
The Flora Hill classical ballet school’s performance will feature up to 40 dancers aged three to 18.
The school’s founder and director, home-grown former professional ballerina Emma Acton, said rehearsals have been “a little bit chaotic” but dancers are shining.
“They’ve loved taking on the challenge of a really fun story that they know,” she said.
“They’ve gotten into character and enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a different kind of choreography than they’re used to, trying to get the story across through mime and through dancing.”
Ms Acton said the production has something for everybody to take away.
“We’ve got a lot of elements this year – backdrop projections with effects and lighting and then spectacular costumes, great music, and then really great storytelling among the young dancers,” she said.
“It’s not too long. Our run time is about an hour and 15 minutes with fun music that people will know, a story that people will know, exciting production value and great, strong dancing.
“It’ll be entertaining for everybody, no matter your age or where you’re from.”
