Creative composition: A few tips is all it takes to capture great photos. Photo: SUPPLIED

SHUTTERBUGS have the opportunity to brush up on their camera skills this weekend with a two-hour intro to photography course led by landscape photographer Joel Bramley.

Topics to be covered include the anatomy of a camera, how a camera works, composition, lighting, depth of field, exposure, camera modes, file formats, memory cards and filters.

Bramley said the class is suitable for people who want to go above and beyond taking pictures on their phone, despite their recent technological advances.

“There’s a certain type of shot you cannot get with a phone because of their physical limitations, so it’s for people who want to go further than what a phone can do,” he said.

“There’s a physical limitation to how good a phone can get, due to the fact that a light photon is a certain size, and the sensor in the camera is a certain size, so more megapixels doesn’t mean better.

“A dedicated camera will achieve more and give you more control. You’ll get better photos out of them just because of the sensor and lens.”

Attendees will need to bring a digital camera with manual aperture or shutter option capability plus a memory card and fully-charged battery.

Interested parties can also participate in separate group sessions or one-on-one sessions (which cost $140) including accessing other advanced courses.

Tickets to the Sunday 7 July workshop, which costs $70, are at the eventbrite website.
