THE Australian Sheep & Wool Show makes its return to the Bendigo Showgrounds next weekend with new Australian Sheep Breeders Association CEO Sue Opie at the helm for the first time.
The former Bendigo Jockey Club commercial manager took over from Margot Falconer in August last year.
Under Opie’s guidance, this year’s highlights include the Stud Masters’ Muster networking event, a sponsors and breeders cocktail party, the always-popular Women of Wool luncheon, the Bendigo Festival of Lamb showcase, and fashion parades throughout the entire three days.
For those considering working in the industry, the careers and technology hub marquee will also host many of the leading agricultural universities and colleges in southern Australia that provide ag degrees, diplomas and short course training in all aspects of farming, agribusiness, and the primary industry sector.

More than 3,000 sheep from five states representing over 25 breeds will compete for honours over the weekend, as will open/championship and maiden/novice yard dogs and some of Australia’s best shearers and wool handlers.
Showgoers will also be spoilt for choice with hundreds of trade exhibitors showcasing rural products, machinery, innovation and lifestyle goods.
Opie said this year’s program has evolved while staying true to the show’s purpose.
“The Australian Sheep & Wool Show is where agriculture meets community,” she said.
“Whether you’re a producer looking at the latest technology, a student considering a career in agriculture, a fibre enthusiast searching for beautiful wool products, or a family wanting a fantastic day out, there truly is something for everyone.
“We’re incredibly proud to showcase not only Australia’s outstanding sheep and wool industries but also the many talented businesses, artisans, food producers and exhibitors who make the show such a unique experience.

“Every visit supports regional businesses, celebrates Australian innovation and helps tell the story of our sheep industry, from farm to fashion and from paddock to plate.”
The Australian Sheep & Wool Show takes place at the Bendigo Showgrounds from next Friday 17 July to Sunday 19 July.
Gates open on all days at 9am, closing at 5pm on the Friday and Saturday and at 4pm on the Sunday.
Tickets are $26 dollars per adult per day or $67 for a three-day pass.
Family tickets (two adults, two children) are $67 per day or $170 for the three days.
